　The Ministry of General Affairs said on the 13th that it was expected that the mobile phone numbers allocated to household appliances with communication functions would be insufficient in the future, so it decided to add about 10 billion additional 14 digits starting with "020." The plan to add a new number by the end of 2021 at the latest will be submitted to the Ministry of General Affairs's meeting of people of insight, NTT DoCoMo and other three mobile phone giants to reach an understanding.

　On the basis of the implementation of public consultation, the Ministry of General Affairs will also collect official reports in June and improve ministerial regulations during the year. For mobile phone giants that have completed system support, assign new numbers in advance.

　Smartphones and other mobile phone numbers now use 11-digit numbers that begin with "090,080,070", while IoT devices use 11-digit numbers that have started with "020" since January 17.

　The Ministry of General Affairs said that of the about 80 million numbers starting with "020", 32.6 million had been allocated to mobile phone giants by the end of March 19. With the commercialization of the next generation communication standard "5G", if it is 11 digits, the number is expected to dry up in 22 years.
